PASSIVE VOICE
The “passive voice” is a grammatical construction in which the subject of a sentence or clause denotes the recipient of the action rather than the performer. Active voice is a more regular used in life everyday rather than passive voice. Passive voice is used because the object of active voice is more important rather than the subject. Many language critics and language-usage manuals discourage use of the passive voice. In English this advice is not usually found in older guides, emerging only in the first half of the twentieth century.
Passive voice is used when the focus is on the action. It is not important or not known, however, who or what is performing the action.
Example: My bike was stolen.
In the example above, the focus is on the fact that my bike was stolen. I do not know, however, who did it.
Sometimes a statement in passive is more polite than active voice, as the following example shows:
Example: A mistake was made.
In this case, I focus on the fact that a mistake was made, but I do not blame anyone (e.g. You have made a mistake.).

Form of Passive

Subject + finite form of to be + Past Participle (3rd column of irregular verbs)
Example: A letter was written.
When rewriting active sentences in passive voice, note the following:
§  the object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence
§  the finite form of the verb is changed (to be + past participle)
§   the subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence (or is dropped)
In Passive voice the sentence focus on object i.e. who/what is receiving the action and not on who/what is performing the action. In passive voice, the actor of the of the verb (action) is either understood at the end of the sentence or maybe not told. Active and passive sentences often have similar meanings, but a different focus:active sentences focus on the agent (or the doer) of the action, while passive sentences focus on the object (i.e. the person/or non-person receiving the action). We can see that the object in the active sentence becomes the subject in the passive sentence. It means that the subject of a passive sentence does not act, it is acted upon. The Passive Voice is formed with the appropriate tense of the auxiliary verb “tobe” + Past Participle / or the third form of the notional verb: to be + V ed/3.
